Garden Burger
A plant-based patty with a proper bite to it, in a toasted sesame bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and a tangy burger sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 plant-based burger patties
- 1 sesame seed bun
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp burger sauce
- 1 tbsp finely chopped pickles
- 2 lettuce leaves
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, sliced
- Salt and black pepper
- Oil for the pan
Method
-
Toast the bun cut side down in a dry pan for 2 minutes until the cut surface is golden. Butter it if you like, but a little oil works just as well.
-
Heat a little oil in the pan and fry the patties for 4 minutes a side, pressing them down with a spatula for the first minute so they brown properly rather than steaming.
-
Check they are cooked through in the centre, then drain them on a plate.
-
Mix the mayonnaise, burger sauce and finely chopped pickles together into a quick burger sauce with a decent sourness.
-
Spread the sauce on both cut sides of the bun.
-
Build: lettuce, patty, tomato, red onion, more lettuce.
-
Put the top on and press down gently so the sauce spreads through the layers.
-
Serve straight away while the bun is still warm.
Notes
The chopped pickles in the sauce are the whole point. They cut through the richness of the patty.
