Bacon Cheese XL-style single patty bacon burger recipe
How to make a Burger King-style Bacon Cheese XL at home — one large flame-grilled beef patty with American cheese, smoky streaky bacon, fresh tomato, lettuce and creamy burger sauce on a large toasted sesame seed crown bun.
Ingredients
- For the burgers: 700 g beef mince (20% fat), formed into 4 large patties (~175g each)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- To assemble: 4 large sesame seed crown buns
- 8 slices American cheese
- 8 streaky bacon rashers
- 1 tomato, sliced
- ½ iceberg lettuce, shredded
- For burger sauce: 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
Method
-
Make the burger sauce. Whisk mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and garlic powder in a small bowl. Set aside.
-
Form 4 large patties (about 175g each — twice the size of a regular Whopper patty). Season both sides.
-
Cook the bacon in a dry pan over medium-high for 3-4 minutes per side until crisp. Set aside.
-
Heat a heavy griddle over high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium.
-
Top each patty with 2 slices of American cheese in the last 30 seconds to melt.
-
Toast the large buns cut-side down on the griddle for 30 seconds.
-
Build: bun base, burger sauce, lettuce, patty with melted cheese, 2 bacon rashers, tomato slices, more sauce, top bun.
-
Serve immediately.
